Seeing as the Academy is going to announce it's choices on January 31, I thought it would be fun if us Jabootuians put up our choices for who & what should be nominated. Sometime around the time that the Oscar voters weigh in, I'll add up the totals and we can compare our nominees to the Academy's.
The Rules (horrible & onerous as they are, lol!):
1. Nominees will be accepted in the following categories: Best Picture Best Director Best Actor Best Actress Best Supporting Actor Best Supporting Actress Best Original Screenplay Best Adapted Screenplay Best Animated Film Best Special Effects
2. Posters can nominate no less than three and no more than seven nominees in each category.
3. Nominees that do not receive a certain minimum number of votes (i.e., more than 1 ) will be eliminated.
4. Categories that fail to get three nominees that meet the minimum number of votes (see above) will be eliminated.
5. No more than two actors/actresses from a single film will be allowed per category. Yes, I know there are films out there where *everybody* does an excellent job, but some of the actors in those films have to be more outstanding than others!
6. Tiebreakers in each category will be resolved in some arbritrary and stupid way I haven't figured out yet. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!! - er, five.
7. If you want to nominate someone who played a character in an animated film, you must nominate both the actor who voiced the character and the animator who drew it. Yes, I know, the *real* Academy would diss the animator in favor of the actor, but since they *both* brought the character to life on the screen, they both deserve the credit. It's my contest and I can make up any rules that I want.
On your marks, get set... nominate! |

I don't know so much about the other categories, but I posted my picks for the animation category quite a while ago.
If I recall correctly, they were:
Howl's Moving Castle The Corpse Bride Madagascar Chicken Little Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Bride is the best of those, but Were-Rabbit will likely win. It's close enough in quality, but will garner sympathy votes on account of the fire as well.
BM: I should have mentioned this at the beginning. I solve my problems with violence. |

Are we talking about things that we think will win, or things we'd like to see win?
Also, if Jabootu is "sponsoring" these, do we mean the most Jabootuan? IE, biggest screw-up of a comic book, Fantastic Four?
If you're talking about what the academy will nominate, I think your original list will probably end up being pretty close...with one glaring exception: Brokeback Mountain isn't in there anywhere, and I can't see Hollywood giving up the chance to award it bunches of awards.

Movies and performances you thought were the best of 2005.
This really isn't an "official" (i.e., Ken-sponsored) Jabootu thing, I just thought it would be fun to compare what *we* thought was the best of 2005 versus what the Academy picks. |
