Howdy all.
Since everyone seems to be in a Superman'y mood on the board, I thought y'all might like to check out the Agony Booth take on Superman IV -- the Quest for a Script.

Not only is the review excellent as usual (and LONG -- they are the only guys I know who out Begg our supreme potentate!), but it contains video clips, which greatly add to the.. uh, errr... ENJOYMENT... of the reader.
Have fun, kids!

| Yes, let us all praise reviewers who, instead of just proclaiming "this movie sucks swampwater", take the time to tell us just how rank the swampwater is, and what nasty diseases partaking of it can give us. |

BTW, a heads up- only the "Lacy in space" video clip plays embedded in the page- all the others open a new YouTube page. Adding the video is a great idea, by the way!!

| I said on that site and I'll say here that I'd love to see Albert Walker and Ken Begg do a cross-site review of something. Those two are the best. |

I just noticed something. When Superman hurls the missile containing proto-NuclearMan into the sun, it makes the trip in a couple seconds.
The average distance between the Earth and sun is 93,000,000 miles.
It takes light 8.5 minutes to reach the Earth from the sun.
Let's say it took 5 seconds for the flight. That means Superman through the missile at roughly 100 times the speed of light.
That's pretty damn super.

Ken Begg and Albert Walker, YOU GUYS RULE!!! Hilarious reviews of a film that sunk the Superman series for 20 years. There was another anti-nuclear weapons film that came out the same time as Superman called Amazing Grace and Chuck and it also was about nuclear weapons. Chuck, a 12 year old little league pitcher, visits a nuclear weapon site and decides to stop playing baseball until all nuclear weapons are banned. Then Amazing Grace, a NBA-star hears about Chuck's adventures and decides he'll stop playing basketball until all nuclear weapons are banned. This causes other professional sports players to stop playing till all nuclear weapons are banned. I'll argue that Amazing Grace and Chuck is more ridiculous than Superman IV and since Ken and Albert took stabs at Superman IV, one of you should give Amazing Grace and Chuck the ultimate Begg/Walker trashing!!!

Look, I know that Supe IV was bad.
I know it showed a total failure of artistic, philosophical, political, and even economic endeavour.
But don't, FOR THE LOVE OF HEAVEN, tell me that someone felt that Nuclear Man Mark I, as shown in that review, was a GOOD idea. Good enough, indeed, that they actually FILMED him looking like this http://www.agonybooth.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3831&whichpage=2 (scroll down to "Meet Nuclearman Mark I"). Good enough to save the footage, and restore for television. THAT I cannot accept.
I ... just can't... (sob) |

Believe it or not, I'd never seen SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE until a few nights ago. I'd always heard how absolutely terrible the movie was but nothing I'd ever read prepared me for just how atrocious it actually was. I just started feeling so bad for Christopher Reeve, but then he did approve the script. That comedy sequence revolving around the double date with Clark and Superman was cringe-inducing to say the least, and I love how Superman declares he's going to rid the world of nukes and all the gov'ts of the world just comply. Whatever you say Supes, just be sure to catch it after we fire it into the stratosphere. And Jon Cryer... That was just pitiful. If the road to cinematic Hell is paved with good intentions then SUPERMAN 4 has its own quarter-mile stretch. Simply beyond the pale of awfulness.
