Yeah, let's discuss The 300 one more time.

Well, look at the bright side: at least Mike, Kevin, and Bill are back together again.

"300, in contrast, is about a gang of shirtless and immoral baby-killing idiots who hack up a larger group of idiots on some cliff in Greece"

As much as I love MST, and as funny as I think he is, I think Mike Nelson has really snarky views on what makes a movie bad. I hate to say that I'm not looking forward to a lot of cheap shots directed at the very least, a technically brilliant film.
10 seasons of mst3k gave me a tolerance for flaws in otherwise good films, and an appriciation what works well in them. It's seems to have done just the opposite for him, made him snarky and cynical.

Mike's an admirer of Michael Medved, and it unfortunately shows; he tends to take a very fascile view of meaning, morality, and subtext.

[size3]I like Medved, but i don't see the need to be too snarkey.
I like some bad movies better then others. Its a personal taste. I'm like Leonard Maltin, regards GORGO. As he said when he guested on the MST of Gorgo, he likes it. Me, i can enjoy it either way, but prefer the MST. Same with the two Godzilla flicks Joel and the bots did.
Mike may be gettin' a liiiiiittl bit self important. I hope Keven and Bill can thin that out with the Film Crew.Well, we'll see...[/size3]

If you look at their catalog, I think you'll see that Rifftrax isn't necessarily targeting "bad" movies. The format may be similar, but they aren't under the same constraints as they were with MST3K. Mike and Co. here seem to just be choosing whatever movies suit their fancy, whatever the quality, and just because they decide to riff something doesn't necessarily mean they think it isn't good. After all, even a relatively good movie can do with a good riffing now and then.

I personally found the 300 blurb above to be a hoot, and I think it's a great choice for a Rifftrax. The only thing that surprises me is how "fresh" it is. I mean, the movie has only recently left the theaters here. They really worked fast on this one.

[size 3] You know, i think attitude is an important variable here.
I prefer a light hearted acceptance of absurdity. "Affable insanity" as it were.
Some comedy is hard edged, and dosn't work for me.
George Carlin describes both aspect of that, really.
The young fun time George, and the old cynic. How people do change.
Star Wars can be riffed. It just dosn't need it. Ohers....oh,boy do they need it. MANOS:THE HANDS OF FATE,anyone?[/size3]

I checked out the Rifftrack (sic? What's the singular of 'trax'?)today and it's quite good, not caustic at all. My worries are withdrawn.
