Another resident evil movie ie on the way. It looks as badly made and as incomprehensible as the others. I can't wait.

Once, in my younger days, I was a huge fan of the Resident Evil franchise (hence my moniker). These days, the games have grown stale, and the movie spinoff series even more so. (Ali Larter as Claire Redfield? Give me a break.)

On top of that, I spotted Bloodrayne 2 at my local Blockbuster, along with Dead or Alive, a movie based on a series of fighting games that quickly became known for their jiggly women instead of the actual fighting.
An embarrassing month so far, for us nerds who honestly believe that video games are a legitimate storytelling medium. |

I can't wait to see #3. Not only it is the third in a series of mediocre videogame adaptations, but the director is Russell Mulcahy. The one and only. The guy who single-handely destroyed the Highlander franchise, the one whose best film in the last 15 years (Silent Trigger) stars Dolph Lundgren, the man who once made one of the most successful Australian movies ever (Razorback) and whose maximum aspiration these days is to add some visual polish to the TV movie of the week.
And before you tell me I'm being too hard on that man, think twice. He's the guy who made Ricochet. And Blue Ice, which is probably the worst movie Michael Caine has ever been in. And The real McCoy, a heist movie starring Kim Basinger that almost terminated her career right there. And The lost battalion, a rather lame attempt to remake Saving private Ryan with zero budget. Or some of the worst episodes of "The hunger" TV series.
That man should sit on Jabootu's right. |

I enjoyed the first one, mainly because of Milla.
I rented the second one, and 15 minutes into it I said to myself "Self, if this doesn't get any better within the next ten minutes, you're turning it off." It didn't, and I did.

Same here... I found the first one watchable due to Milla, interesting production design, even decent music. Not a classic, but a decent B zombie movie. 2nd one I didn't last... yeah, 15 minutes, I think, just like you!

The mystifying thing is to consider that the 2nd one generated enough money to justify making a third one.
I was spared watching the entire movie as it was playing on DVD in the mess hall and I arrived just in time to watch the ridiculous final hand-to-hand fight scene at the end.
It was bad. It was Highlander 2 bad. |

Yup, it has pulled in almost 30 mil in the opening 3-4 days. Sadly,I was responsible for some of that. Yes, it IS the worst movie of the series -- I am one of the few to make it all of the way through the second one, but almost walked out on this one... (sigh)

I saw the second one in the theatre, I think on opening weekend (the Sunday part). The next day, Monday, I literally could not recall what I'd spent the previous evening doing. Noticing that I was about $10 shy in my wallet, I suddenly recalled. "Oh, yeah, I saw that Resident Evil 2 movie."
I'm not exaggerating. It was just astonishing how forgettable it was. |

I'm sure any bad feelings people have toward video game-based movies will be totally erased when the Tekken movie comes out.

Didn't they already try Tekken? Twice? Once with Avenging Fist, and once with that craptacular animated film whose only redeeming feature was the soundtrack, featuring American rock bands?
