Hi all.
I watched two movies in the theater in the last few days, and Resident Evil: Extinction was the BETTER of the two...
(Dramatic pause)
Yes, I am talking about D-War, or Dragon Wars, and this makes Mansquito look like a magnum opus.
Now, I am a reasonable guy, and I do not require my fantasy/sci-fi films to make sense, have great acting, or ANY kind of subtext. No, they just have to be entertaining. If I can get all of the above qualities, then that is wonderful, but I can definitely be diverted by such fare as Resident Evil -- the FIRST one -- and consider it time well spent.
Dragon Wars did not even live up to that level.
Aside from some reasonably well-executed CGI effects, this is one of the most strangely DEAD movies I have ever watched. The plot did not even make zombie-killing-movie levels of sense, the acting was bad, and they had obviously never heard of the steady-cam. In fact, I kinda expected to see the name UFO somewhere... And the premise of an out-and-out dragon fight in downtown Los Angeles seemed like such a GOOD idea! (sigh)
One does wonder how this EVER got theatrical release -- as a favor to someone? Unfortunately, except for the dinosaurs with rocket launchers on their backs (?!?!?!?!?????), this movie isn't even Jabootu fun.
However, if you do decide to go see it, you might get to see the trailer for the new Dungeon Seige movie... (Yeah!)

Mmmmm... I just watched the Dungeon Siege trailer myself and there's something I need to share here: When I saw Ray Liotta overacting in medieval clothes, I was reminded of the "middle ages" scene in Jim Carrey's lost masterpiece, The cable guy.
If the trailer alone can bring back such painful memories, this has to be Jabootu-worthy. |
