| IMHO Robert Redford has always been overrated as a filmmaker. I don't plan to watch this movie, saw the trailer and it looked awful. |

So, is this evidence that Cruise's knack for picking scripts is starting to atrophy?

Redford and the bunch were banking on conventional wisdom.
According to the way the media is telling us the public's mood is, a preachy anti-war flick should draw a crowd.
But using politics to gauge how a movie is going to do is as risky as using conventional wisdom to try and predict the outcome of an election.
In 1992, conventional wisdom said that nobody had a chance of beating Bush. Not after he'd built a coalition and beat Saddam like that. So, bowing to conventional wisdom "2nd tier" Democrats like Bill Clinton ran for President.
Conventional wisdom, huh?
Another election coming up and a lot of people are starting to think pretty "conventionally" about how it is going to turn out. They might be in for a suprise, as much as Redford and these other anti-war movie producers have received these last few weeks. |

One question:
Are we in Billy Jack territory when it comes to this movie?

Zombie, that line should have gone to Redford's character.
Remember, Tom's character is a Republican. So he might of had this line while taking booze and whores in to the mountains:
"On this bus,we’ve got corporation presidents, Pentagon officials, Washington politicians and even the Lieutenant Governor!”
But then again, this is Tom we are talking about. I think the best Billy Jack line that applies to him is:
"I just go beeeerserk"
Wouldn't you agree?

One other thing:
Many people have compared the film to Crash. And Crash's director Paul Haggis is getting most of the credit for the style that Crash and Lions for Lambs uses.
But it was actually John Sayles who was doing the interlocking story technique way before anyone else did them. Just watch City of Hope or Sunshine State. I think he's been screwed out of his credit.
Part of my enjoyment of seeing Redford going down to defeat is because he's trying to see if he can top Sayles. Well, brother. YOU AIN'T JOHN SAYLES.

| But there's people out there who have beaten Sayles using his won weapons. I'm speaking of Richard Linklater's Fastfood Nation. The reviews have been mixed, but I though it was great, give or take some silly scenes with a pontificating Ethan Hawke. |
