1. Countdown with Keith Olberman: Hatred and cheap sarcasm are no substitute for actual political discussion
2. The View. Cackle Cackle Cackle
3. Oprah: Enough said already
4. The O'Reilly Factor: Another clown. Will you shutup!
5. Charlie Rose: He keeps on asking dull questions and then answering them himself.
6. The NFL Network of football games: Horrible camera work and Gumbel does no preperation at all. He cant keep up with the plays and gets all the players mixed up all the time. Just awful. Makes one long for Howard Cosell.
7. Stargate Atlantis: Even more static than Stargate SG1. Dul beyond dull.
8. Maury Pouvitch: I no longer care who the father was.
9. Any tatoo, gym, dating, celebrity, or other "reality" show. The Osburnes were the gold standard of this kind of show. They were warm, weird and hillarious. All else is piffle.
10. Hard Ball with Chris mathews. All he does is scream at the guests.

A columnist I like recently wrote about an appearance Bush made on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Because he made nice and was congenial on Oprah, he actually experienced a slight bump in his popularity numbers.
Somebody the columnist knew said, "What a stupid country."
You left out Cavemen, which I never watched but despise on principle. It sounded like something from the 1980s when the networks bombarded us with sitcom after sitcom never caring how stupid the premise of many of them were.
Actually, I would nominate pretty much all of daytime television. I call it "Loserville". Shows like Povitch, but also all of the "judge" shows. All that flap over Ellen Degeneres' dog adoption flap cemented it as a stupid show. I said cemented. It was already intolerable. |

Guys, it would be a lot more time and energy efficient to list the few shows that don't entirely suck as opposed to the hundreds that do *lol*

Hmmm -- Charlie Rose -- I find that show so frustrating! He'll have fascinating guests, and he continually interrupts them! Rose will ask a good question, one where I think "hey, I want to know the answer to that!" and in the middle of the guest's answer, Charlie interrupts and takes the conversation off on some other tangent and we never hear the anwer to the original question!
Interesting thing: Years ago (decades, I really), Charlie Rose had a show here called A.M. CHICAGO; When he left the show, who was his replacement as host of the show?: Oprah!

I once saw Noam Chompsky on Charlie Rose. Rose, ever the suck up, asked, how is that you are so smart?. Chompsky, that self absorbed, old and possibly senile communist, replied that he really didn't know how he got so smart. The Charlie Rose Show is awful I think.
I have never seen the Ellen Degeneres Show and so it didnt make my list. Nor have I ever seen those judge shows except for the clips that appear on The Soup, which is one of my favorite shows. But I was gunning for shows like Keith Olbermann and Charlie Rose that take themselves serously but are in fact idiotic. |

At least Charlie Rose actually bothers to do some research on his guests before they appear. You won't find a worse interviewer on TV than Larry King. So many times I've seen this guy do an interview with someone where King displays so little knowledge that I'm surprised he didn't begin the interview by asking the person "Who are you and why have you been booked on my show?" A questionable guest can walk right over King unscathed because King often doesn't know enough to ask the proper follow-up questions and/or is just unwilling to engage the subject in a debate.
And you really don't know what horrible television is until you've had to suffer through five minutes of Big Shots on ABC - think Desperate Housewives with male CEO's who neither talk or behave like actual human beings. Unfortunately, my master control job required me to run it. Thankfully, it has since been cancelled.

Which in its own way makes Charlie Rose the worse of the two. He knows better, he is smart and he just ruins interviews through his own pomp-ass-osity and ego.

Since we're talking about shows like Charlie Rose and Larry King, I want to throw out a dishonorable mention for the old Charles Grodin Show. It ran from 1995 to 1998.
And no, I don't remember it because it was good.
Grodin could turn an interview with the most interesting people--when he could get them--into a lengthy recounting of his own anecdotes. Anecdotes complete with a lot of pompous name-dropping. He loved to talk about himself.
And after watching one episode, you started wondering how somebody so obviously bereft of a personal sense of humor, irony, or even self-consciousness managed to be cast into so many comedies over the years.
Acting! Brilliance! Genius! Thank you!
Or to put it another way, I couldn't even successfully lobby for them to add The Charles Grodin Show to the "Jump the Shark" website just so I could mock it's awfulness there.
It wasn't even interesting enough to be added there...and they even have The Sandra Bernhard Experience there to ridicule. |

I think it's been 2 years now since I stopped watching TV. I still follow several TV series over P2P (yeah, I know, I'm Dillinger), go to the movies at least once a week and read as much as I can.
I can feel my brain cells growing back, and I don't care if scientist say that's impossible. |

I...have not seen ANY regular network show for years! And since I can't afford cable, Its quiet in my house. And thats good, cause now I have time to Write!
And I gotta say, even if I can't make money with it,for now...at least my creative side is no longer starving.

| I was thinking about shows that are current. I forgot about all those shows directed toward 12 year old girls that one can find on Nick or Disney. These cheaply done quickies such as Zoey 101 or hannah montana are simply awful in every way. One note acting and repetitive plots and endless insults are so dull I cannot understand what 12 year old girls see in them. While not as bad as Countdown with Keith Olberman they certainly deserve to be vilified. |

Good point. Why are these shows so loud? Why do the characters scream at each other all the time? Are 12 year old girls deaf?

I feel compelled to ask: why would you be watching Zoey 101 or Hannah Montana? You don't seem to fit into the show's target demographic.
