I know there's a longer version of The Wicker Man available, but it doesn't change the ending. From what I've read, the writer and director always intended for the movie to end with the sacrifice, leaving what happened after that up in the air.

There was nothing in the extras in the WICKER MAN set to indicate that there was an ending radically different from the one that's in the known versions.

BTW, that's a pretty major spoiler- might want to tag it (though it seems we've all seen the movie you never know who might be reading...)

Upon further reflection deep prayer and carefully taking in the comments on the original The Wicker Man I now believe that I was too harsh in my judgement. I will make an effort to rent it out and watch it again with a newly open mind.
