I've been a fan of Heinlein's early work particularly his juveniles from the 50's. Once he broke away from those after Starship Troopers he went increasingly off-track in my humble opinion. The limitations of writing juveniles actually made him a better writer. He still got in a lot of his ideas but was restrained from going into the base and crass.
Anyways, I'm currently listening to Starman Jones. I'm wondering why no one has ever taken some of Heinlein's juveniles and turned them into miniseries? SJ could easily be broken into 8-10 one hour episodes and with the sfx available today be done in a relatively inexpensive manner. I would even stick with the technology as described and go with a retro feel. It seems like it could be a nice set of sci-fi series.

A few years ago I bought the entire "Future history" series from Heinlein from a second hand bookshop. That also would make a terrific series.
As for Heinlein's works getting worse with time... it could be. I love "The puppet masters" and, to a lesser extent, "Starship troopers", but I could bring myself to finish "Stranger in a strange land". Funny thing is, according to Wikipedia there's only a few years difference between them. |

Definitely, that was my first introduction to his work and it would make a great little series. I just think they would be great, especially if done in a retro style.
He did have The Moon is a Harsh Mistress after that. But beyond that there's nothing I really cared for. He really just seemed to lose it as a writer at that point. It some ways he went crazy in the 60's and beyond just like he predicted society would.

| The only Heinlein I've ever read is Stranger in a Stranger Land. Which is precisely why I've never bothered to pick up another Heinlein book. |

Try The Puppet Masters, Methuselah's Children, or even Double Star. They are better reads and not juveniles. Or try one the Future History anthology. You'll get a lot of good reads out of it. General rule of thumb is pre-60's are usually good. The 60's are hit-and-miss. The 70's and 80's are best left to collect dust. His health was failing in the 70's and it really affected his writing, IMHO.

| Was "Puppet Masters" (the book) ripped off by Corman's It Conquered the World or did Heinlein's book come out afterwards? |
