If you're still on the boards, that is:
I just heard another [REC] sequel came out in Spain recently. Any good, or has the series run its course? |

Jeez, it's been ages since I last came here...
As for the new "REC" film, people seem to think it's lesser than the previous two but also a welcome change of direction. See, Paco plaza has directed it alone while co-director Jaume Balaguero did "Mientras dormias", and has get rid of the Barcelona setting and the shaky cam. This one takes place in a wedding *at the same time* than the previous two and it's filmed the conventional way, except for the prologue.
And it's also a dark comedy rather than a serious affair. It satirizes many of the things usually going on at a wedding, and once the gore kicks in there are few direct homages to the "Evil Dead" series.
I for one enjoyed it on the theatre, although I found that it's cleary a much more lighter affair than the previous two films, but I've read opinions of people who expected real horror and were seriously disappointed.
Jaume Balaguero (on his own) is now supposed to finish the series with "REC: Apocalypsis", but the film is still on its early stages:

In this interview he says he's writing the script. |

Sounds like I'd be disappointed, with the new sequel, too.
From my perspective, there are very few good serious, "realistic" zombie films out there (ex., the original REC and 28 Days Later) and way too many of the campy, tongue-in-cheek variety.
Anyway, Nev, hope to see you posting at the new Jabootu forum.
