Thinking about writing a review, tryin' to decide again what to go for. Interesting little dilemma here. (Dammit, even my intros are long-winded now.)

My choices are 2010 and Lady in the Water. Okay, 2010 is not a Jabootu movie, I know. After reading Ken's review of Freddy vs. Jason, I thought about finding a movie I liked overall but still has lots of flaws I can pick at. This one fits the bill.

Now, Lady, in my opinion, deserves a full frontal assault, especially after mulling over some stuff I've thought about in the last year or so. Also, it's timely, seeing as M. Night Shyamalan has another movie coming in a few months, and he doesn't appear to have learned from his mistakes. Lady would get the full brunt of my wrath, and hopefully some good sarcastic quips; 2010 would be a lot dryer, simply running down the details that work and don't work.

I'd go for Lady in the Water in a heartbeat, but here's the problem: if I review it, I'll want to have the DVD for at least a week, and that means getting it from Netflix. At this time, I'm at my limit, and it may be at least a week before any of my rentals go back. Also, work could very well get hectic quite soon (actually, it's insane as it is, but it could get into the bad-for-my-health range in the next week or so). It would be a while before I was up to watching and reviewing.

By contrast, I own a copy of 2010 and could start dictating my notes and getting them down right away.

So, a potentially boring review of a movie that may not deserve to be on this site (though maybe it would have some interesting stuff in it), or a haymaker thrown at a film that deserves a good trashin'.... after a month or so.

First two votes out of three wins it. And they're off! Ding ding ding!

I'd be interested to read what you have to say about 2010. Personally, I like the movie alot (I'm a huge Arthur Clarke fan, and I really don't care one way or another about Kubrick, so there ya go), but I know it has flaws. I'd love to read it!

2010.

If a full-on haymaker aimed at Lady in the Water will be forthcoming at some future date, then I can wait for it.

2010 is my vote.

2010 is a good choice. I was thinking that it would make a good review for a different forum, so you have my full support in this case. Any ways, as this is my 2nd post I don't think I have much claim to anything. :)

May take a little longer than I planned. I've had computer trouble the last few days (which I think has been resolved, knock wood), and I wasn't able to get much note-taking done. Hopefully I'll have something ready by the end of this week or early next.

Just an off hand thought. I recently (less then a month) reread the book version of 2010. I might be willing to do some after thoughts about the translation to the screen if your okay with that. I would do it after your finished with your review so as not to distract.

Fox, I read the book about twenty years ago. I'll mention parts of it that I remember that do and don't work, but I'm not gonna go into too much depth.

In other words, go for it. I'll be interested to hear what you have to say.

Review may be a while longer. Hope to finish by the end of this week, but work has indeed gotten completely crazy. Add to that, I've been feeling under the weather the past several days and haven't felt up to writing at any length.

If'n I finds I have a clean bill of health, I'll be back on the ball. Warning: the notes I've dictated and written so far tell me I'm gonna nitpick the hell out of 2010, probably more that it deserves. But, as I think I'll write in the review, 2010 was overall a good movie that could and should have been a classic. Near-misses seem to get more of a white-glove treatment from me.

Gonna do like Food and post it a bit at a time. Should have the whole thing up by this evening or tomorrow. Enjoy. (Or get the rotten fruit out.)

Ask and ye shall receive. I've gotten the play-by-play of the movie down. It may be a week or ten days before the whole thing's ready to go. I want to edit the plot a bit (found a couple of screw-ups I'd missed earlier), and I haven't started on the Afterthoughts. Warning: the Afterthoughts section will be pretty long; I have a lot to say about this sucker. Also, I'm gonna be out of town for the weekend, and I have to work late all next week. But maybe next Saturday or Sunday....

Oh, and I think this review will indeed be a full-on haymaker. If I hear a rumbling and see a mushroom cloud coming from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, it'll mean M. Night Shyamalan has read this thing. No pulled punches, no prisoners, and as Aunty said in Thunderdome, no mercy!
