Okay, so I've read some good reviews of The Mist, and some bad. I got wind of how it ended, and that killed any chance of me seeing it in the theater. Never would've rented it, but my Dad had it, and he told me I could take it home with me as long as I got it back to the store by Tuesday.
Holy f---in' s---.
Less than 48 hours after writing a pretty scathing review, and I see something that has me wanting to punch out the director. And that means, literally, if Frank Darabont walked in my front door, in ten minutes, he'd probably be on the way to the hospital, and I'd be under arrest for simple assault. (In all honesty, I've never been so revolted at a writer or director, even at Alexandre Arcady, that I wanted to knock him or her out.)
So here's two dilemmas. First, do I write a review? After all, some people on here may have liked The Mist. They may not like me so much after reading the review.
Second, do I try and write the review from memory (quicker, but much sketchier), or do I suck it in and spend four bucks of my hard-earned money....?
Can I get some feedback? Please note that the review would have some religious and political content. I'd try to keep an open mind, which I suspect is more than Darabont did. |

| Go for it! No one'll get offended. As for memory or $4 (regular price, four bucks, four bucks,....heehee), **shrug**...I dunno. |

I think you're mainly amongst like-minded thinkers here, and even if not everyone tends to be cool about it. I say do it!!

Your dissections are great, Brad. So suck it in, look under the couch cushions, and find that $4!

Hmmmmmm.
I was considering trying to bang out a review based on memory, but I don't know if I'll remember the details. Also, I've started playing Fix The Movie in my head again, and I don't want my imagined "improvements" messing up the synopsis.
I have no problem spending the four bucks. I may be able to get a two-for-one special, and also if I return it early I may get a discount. But this still means I have to suffer through this thing again. O, the sacrifices! Expiation! Expiation!
Since I'm working late all week, I'll have to rent it tomorrow and get the dictation out of the way. If that doesn't work out, it's Netflix time. If I watch it tomorrow, the review should be up sometime next week. Of course, with me, that probably means mid-June.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more! |

This discussion of the movie's ending....not in line with the original story, I take it?
--------------------- I rather enjoyed that story and have been reluctant to see the movie. |

| Nope. The comparison of endings will be in the review. If you don't want it spoiled, you may want to try and read the story, or find a copy of the book-on-tape, which is more of a radio play of the story. My memory may be fooling me, but book and play didn't go out of their way to piss me off. |

In order to bolster your memory of a recent movie that saw a theatrical release, I recommend www.themoviespoiler.com. They may have what you are looking for. The recaps there are fairly long, fairly detailed, and just-the-facts.

I think the novella's one of his better works. And the ending works in the context of the story (I'm trying not to say anything about it for those who've not read it.) It's one of those types of endings that I think actually work. It most definitely did not piss me off. Which means I'm probably going to hate the movie's ending... Still, I wanna see their versions of the critters.

Well, I've got the dictation done, and the damn thing is already back at the video store (got a free rental since I told them I hated it). Now I have to write it (shudder).
Rev, the ending did indeed change, and it pisses on the book's ending. I was disappointed in the critters, except for The Big Guy (and if you've read the book, you know exactly what I'm talking about). For the forty-five seconds he was on screen, the movie worked. |

I just saw it a few weeks ago Brad. I'm interested on your take. I have a feeling you'll have similar complaints.

That scene with the Big Guy was one of the highlights of the story. Just so simple and evocative. I'm glad they managed to do well with that, at least. Still, how do you screw up the other critters? They're described well enough to picture in your mind's eye, but there's certainly liberty to be taken with their visual presentation, since they're mutated, crazy-ass beasties one and all (except maybe the albino pterodactyl, but that should be even easier...) Did they even manage to screw up the thing scratching at the loading door? That should've been pretty simple too I'd think...
---------------- I'm half-tempted to see what atrocities they've done, and half-certain I'm better off not knowing... |

The thingy scratching at the door was the worst of the screw-ups, in my opinion.
Everything's in but the afterthoughts, but it may take a couple of days. Review should be ready to go Wednesday or Thursday. |
