I didn't see a thread on this anywhere else. I would assume this movie may appeal to quite a few folks on this board. For me, it's the best trailer I've seen in years.

| No one really knows. The operating title is "Cloverfield", it's produced by Abrams, but people don't know much more than that. From what I have heard, the whole movie will be shot on hand held video, like the scenes in the trailer. The GUESS is that it's a giant monster, but it won't be a huge special effects movie. |

it, apparently, is going to be Blair Witch-like using hand held video cameras showing this group of people dealing with a giant monster attacking.
The exact nature of the creature has been a well-guarded secret, which has led people to speculate everything from Cthulhu (which is stupid) to Voltron (almost as dumb). On the set, the was code named the "Parasite" but it's been stated that it is not a parasite. So much for a giant hookworm, I guess.
Producer Abrams made this movie because he wanted an American Godzilla. Not like the American remake, but a giant monster that can be the cultural icon Gojira is in Japan. So, I'm expecting a distinct look from the monster. Something that could easily but put on t-shirts, candy bars and laxatives. |

It does look like it might be interesting, but I have a concern.
January is pretty much the studio dumping ground. That's when they release the stuff that they figure won't make money or win awards. That makes me think they have no confidence in this.
Of course, maybe they're trying to start a trend or break the curse. The trailer (and that irritating website) are certainly stirring up interest. |
