Finally, someone "high profile" is selling digital song and album downloads in a universal format that plays on anything. The selection's not bad, either. Pricing is rumored to be comparable to a little better than iTunes (I don't use iTunes, so I couldn't say).
I know Microsoft and Apple have been selling music downloads forever, but I don't want my music tethered to their proprietary players. For full albums, it's still cheaper sometimes to buy a used CD and rip it to MP3s yourself, but for individual songs this is great, and really, ~$8.99/album is pretty reasonable for the convenience of instant availability.

Actually, they're not. When you download iTunes, you can burn them directly to a CD-RW with the iTunes player. You can then rip those same songs off the CD-RW (with no loss in quality) into any MP3 player you wish.
