| Tell me something: for years I've read endless jokes on the Internet about Cruise's personal life and his supposedly being... well... you know (wink wink). Now Sardu's alluding to it on this board. Does anyone have any actual proof that he's secretly, ahem,(nudge nudge) or is all this pure speculation? |

Well, believe it or not I know someone who ran a very prominent hair salon in Nashville. Stereotype though it may be, pretty much the entire staff was gay and they all swore that Cruise was, shall we say, on their team. Allegedly he even came in the place once with his boyfriend. I really don't know whether to give that story a bit of credence or not. I was mainly just making a cheap joke based on the rumors. But at least some members of the gay community take the rumors seriously. At the end of the day though, A) who knows and B) who cares, really. Deep down I tend to think that if he really were he'd just come out- would it affect his career? I doubt it.
(BTW they also outed Kenny Chesney years before the whole Zellweger beard fiasco...)

I'm organising a mob to infiltrate the Scientology headquarters and steal Nicole Kidman's tapes of sexual intimacies. So far it's only me and I'm bringing the popcorn. If any of you want to participate and own firearms, just say it.
Oh, and we'll need a VHS player too. |

I think a lot of the speculation actually comes from the fact that Cruise takes such pains to keep up his Scientology creds. From what I understand, the Scientology auditing process makes the subject talk about his/her sex life in the most graphic detail. The church then keeps these files on hand to make it difficult to quit. The auditee always has to worry about this information being released should he decide to leave or denounce Scientology. Consequently, there has always been speculation that Cruise and/or Travolta are gay (or at least have something to be very embarrassed about) and therefore are not only afraid to leave the church but feel compelled to visibly support it.

Thanks for the link. Whatever "dirt" Scientology thinks it has on Cruise, however, I tend feel that Cruise's convictions are sincere. Note, for example, how Cruise has damaged his lucrative working relationship with Steven Spielberg, a separation that occurred because Cruise is fanatically anti-psychiatry while Spielberg's wife Kate Capshaw is the exact opposite.

I agree that Cruise is sincere in his beliefs. What could cement Cruise to Scientology, however, is the fact that the church actively helps its celebrity adherents keep up appearances. Here are some more intimations on this topic with further links:

Actually, I was kind of wondering about this the other day even before the subject of L. Ron’s sperm came to the fore. There was a news story the other day that Nicole Kidman was pregnant. When she and Cruise were married they had no biological children of their own. They just went out and bought a couple. But if she can get pregnant, and Suri is Cruise’s natural child then they shouldn’t have had too much trouble having kids of their own. Of course if they weren’t having sex and/or L. Ron’s seed was still on ice then the lack of issue to the marriage isn’t that big a surprise. |

Weren't there rumours that a 'sex instructor' had to be bought in to show them how do their love scenes in Eyes Wide Open.
Always intrigued me, not so much the rumour that Cruise and Kidman didn't know how to have sex but the possibility of a profession of 'Sex Instructor' existing. They never told me about this career path at school.

Just to rain on the parade, I recall one of the gay oolumnists (who was not averse to outing celebrities) sighing, "Tom Cruise really isn't gay. We all just wish he were."
That was BX (Before Xenu) though. Now perhaps most gays would rather not be too associated with his antics. |
