Surprised no one has mentioned this yet. Most will remember him from the Smokey and the Bandit films but Jerry was a well known singer-songwriter in Nashville for years before he made the leap to (sort of) acting. And he was a damn good guitar player who earned the respect of luminaries like Chet Atkins.
Jerry died at age 71 of emphysema. In respect to a super awesome guy I will refrain from all tasteless "When you're hot, you're hot" jokes for a period of three days.

He was indeed. A great picker, songwriter, and with a good musical sence of humor.
R.I.P son.
