We recently passed the 30th anniversary of the Jonestown tragedy.
But I have not seen any movies based on that event.
One I heard about was a mini-series staring the 24 vice president Powers Booth.

Then there is this obscure title that I've never heard of.

Has anyone ever seen these? Can anyone recommend a title?

| The one with Powers Booth(what a great name) is pretty good, especially his performance. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I'd recommend it. |

What about that second movie: Guyana: Crime of the Century?
From what I've heard, the movie is suprisingly competent coming from a director who is considered a hack. And from what I hear about the director, he has directed a few Jabootu worthy films that might be worth viewing.
As for Powers Booth, from the clips, he's pretty good as Jim Jones. But his voice is too gruff. Jones at that point was a shadow of his former self. He'd abused so many drugs that he was starting to get the Larry Flynt lisp.

Still, it was Booth's finest moment. He won awards for his performance. And I would like to see it. All of it. ________________________________________________________________________

| My parents have Direct Tv, and they used to always show it on a West Coast PBS station but like I said its been a while. Guyana: Crime of the Century is available on Netflix. |

The miniseries with Powers Boothe was called "Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones". I remembered that Veronica Cartwright, Levar Burton, Ned Beatty, Meg Foster, and Randy Quaid were in it, but I found several more names when checking IMDb; this show had a very impressive cast.
I saw it around 1988 when it was re-run. I might find it a little over-the-top, with some TV-movie-isms, if I saw it today, but it has probably held up pretty well overall. |

| MSNBC is running a documentary about Jonestown that uses actual tapes and footage along with interviews with survivors. This is riveting television and better than anything a movie can come up with. The very best book I have read about Jonestown is "Journey To Nowhere" by the late Shiva Naipaul (brother of VS). Shiva not only tells the story of Jim Jones from the beginning in an almost novel format but also places the events in a larger political context. |

I saw a movie/documentary on the History channel called Jonestown: Paradise Lost. Its kind of like Touching the Void, where people are interviewed and their actions are replicated by actors.
I have mixed feelings on the guy they chose to play Jim Jones. He's got the voice right. But he looks WAY to young. I wonder if he has a part in the new Star Trek film. He looks less like Jones and more like a thin Elvis impersonator.
