The new actor playing the Doctor is only 26. I bet his eventual replacement will be teenager.

I thought the same thing. The recent run of Doctor threaten to run together.
PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court? HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

Oh but didn't you know that it's not his age which is the tragedy, it's that he's male and white. (via IO9)
But yeah, I don't know if the reincarnation of the series is really that sustainable with the actor playing the Doctor changing every season or two. For the most part I've found the current series to be somewhat disappointing. They're missing something and I'm not sure what. I grew up with the Tom Baker version and there was a certain charm that the past two current Doctor's lack.

Well, measure any Doctor against Tom Baker, the longest-running actor in that role, and I'm sure most of them will come up wanting, in both charm and longevity.
While I was disappointed that Christopher Eccleston left after only one season, I'm found Tennant to be a joy to watch. And he will have done four seasons (counting the current specials-only year) by the time he finishes, so it's a respectable run.

I liked Tennent too. While he was young he had a certain maddness to the way he played the Doctor that compensated for that (and near the end he was pushing 40 which it think would be the prime age for someone playing the Doctor)and while he was good looking it was in a weird kind of elfin way and not in a teen magazine cutes way. I've seen pictures of this new guy and he looks way too young and I think it will take some amazing acting chops for someone that young to give the role both the humor and the gravitas that it requires.

| Like most Americans, my initial exposure to the series was via Tom Baker. For the longest time I would have considered him my favorite. Then finally the much ballyhooed Jon Pertwee epsiodes began airing stateside, and I have to say I developed quite a fondness for him, too. Talk about apples and oranges, but both actors made the role their own, each in their own style. |

| I first saw The Doctor while visiting the UK and he was played by Patrick Troughton. I thought it was the silliest thing I ever saw but the show grew on me until I was completely hooked. Troughton was only 42 when he was tapped to play the Doctor and did a great job. I think that the part is best played by someone older with a touch of cynicism and mischief. To that end William Hartnell had it down just right. It took a while for the stories to gather up the proper momentum and by then Hartnell was ill and had to retire. |
