Unless you've been under a rock for the last few days, you obviously have heard about Joaquin Phoenix rather unusual interview.
I can say that I thought it was a little shocking to see someone act like that on national television.
But I can't say it was unexpected that it was on Letterman's show. I mean this is the latest in a long string of celebrity calamities to befall the guy.
I'm not kidding. Something causes celebrities who are unstable to become totally unglued in his presence. Makes me wonder if Letterman was in the area when Cristian Bale went on his tirade.
Check out these vids of Letterman's guests having their "moments":

Well the Kaufman/Lawler and Crispin Glover segments were both supposedly acts. The Kaufman one was to get publicity for his wrestling career, and Glover was doing some character of his. But still hilarious stuff! Gotta wonder what the hell Crispin Glover had in that case. Some sort of ear collection?

I think that being on Letterman sometimes confuses certain celebrities when it comes to being relaxed and "cool" as opposed to being a moron. Either that or they make the mistake of being high on a nationally televised show.

One time Oliver Reed was on the Letterman show, and was acting funny and humorous (playing on his reputation as a drunkard & brawler), but Letterman just didn't "get it", and was acting like Reed was some kind of psycho (he actually seemed afraid of him). In this case it wasn't Reed's fault that things went wrong (he was acting like he was on a comedy show), but Letterman's.

Oliver would scare the pants off anyone back in the day. Actually, for a lot of women that was probably pretty literally true.
