The
Jabootu Banner Contest Results! Recently, Jabootu demanded better performance from his Acolytes in terms of readership (he was getting sick of buying his own web space). In keeping with this mission, those of you who have been around long enough will remember seeing mention of a contest to garnish more clicks from the LinkExchange banner of Jabootu. Well, the judging is complete, and between the masterfully crafted and witty entries received, plus with some analysis of click-through psychology in the discussion area, two ideas quickly separated themselves from the crowd: Sex, and Jabootu. There was a temporary hesitancy to engage in a classic bait-and-switch. Pages that spam the search engines by "seeding" their pages with hormone-activating verbiage like Big Breasts, Madonna, Gillian Anderson, Pamela Lee, Pia Zadora, Redheads, Blondes, Chesty Morgan, Madonna, Mud wrestling babes, flesh, Pamela Lee, naked, nudism, big breasts, exploitation, Gillian Anderson, gorgeous females, breasts, Pamela Lee, and the like really show an abysmal lack of creativity (and are quite sophomoric in my opinion). But then Jabootu chimed in to remind us that the movies that are claimed by his Realm do exactly that: bait and switch. They promise to be sexy. They promise to touch, thrill, provoke or arouse us in some new or exciting way. They promise not to bore us into suicide. Then Jabootu reminded us further that the only way these films can fulfill their promise is to make their inevitable appearances here, where the pressure-release-valves can get opened. So, with the moral dilemma now safely diffused, let's proceed into what our Muse had us do with the entries:
Next, the Runners Up: The most difficult part of such a decision-making process is coming to terms with a reasonable set of criteria for evaluating the entries. One could rank submissions from such a witty and erudite audience many ways, from "most obscure reference" to "most Jabootuesque phrase" to "entry that made us laugh the hardest". In the final analysis, though, we had to go with "idea to generate the most clicks", but the decision wasn't easy. To assuage our disappointment over the fact that picking a winner unavoidably makes the rest of the entries fall into the "not-winner" category, we decided to post the rest of the submissions here as well. There wasn't an entry in the bunch that wasn't great, and perhaps these ideas can also be conversation-starters for the Bulletin Board Focus Group:
