| I just re-watched it last night. Weird movie-Barbara Hershey did a great job. Do you all think a re-make would be in order? If so, Who should play the lead? |

I don't think a remake is possible, given the current position of the MPAA on sex / nudity, which was far more relaxed back in the 80s.
I like the movie, although I think it is a bit too long, and that, together with the lack of explanation on the phenomenon works against it.
An actress to play Barbara Hershey's role? That's a tough one. No top list actress would want to do such a role, but there are some young not sopopular actresses who don't seem to be afraid of nudity or controversial roles, such as Maggie Gyllenhaal or Chloe Sevigny. |

| Then people would take it as a metaphor of her marriage with Charlie Sheen. Plus she does not do nudity anymore, does she? |

...And she graced Playboy's cover not too long ago. Maybe you're right about Denise Richards, I forgot this detail. Shannen Doherty would do it for sure, she has no career after dumping Aaron Spelling, or so I've heard.
Still, I'm sure there are more talented actresses out there. Any ideas? |

Nah, dismissing "Million Dollar Baby" to make "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" is already enough punishment.

Angelina Jolie? Depends. The problem here is (I think) that you could be listing names for the whole night (it's 00:10 in my country) and I would object to many of them, because I don't think we have the same vision on how the remake should be. Are you thinking in making a more or less serious film, as the original was or are you thinking in some softcore, tongue in cheek revision? Because I could picture Denise Richards or Shannen Doherty on it if it were the latter case, but certainly not for the first one.
Angelina Jolie is a good one, though, she could star in both versions. |

| No, i am talking about a full-on remake with no punches pulled. and they better not cop out by making it PG-13! |

Umm, so you're really eager for a "no punches pulled" movie about a woman being raped (by a ghost, sure, but still...)?
Possibly the movies that they keep in that back section would be more to your taste. |

| A remake is already in the works. One of my biggest gripes with Hollywood is that they will remake a film, based on a book, when another fine book, by the same author, remains unfilmed. In this case, Frank De Felita's blow-your-socks-off novel Sea Trial wasn't filmed when it was first published, in the early 1980s. This deprived Charles Durning of the performance of his career. Does anyone out there agree with me that only Charles Durning could have played Captain McCracken, and that he's too old now? But I'd still prefer a film based on Sea Trial to a remake of THE ENTITY. |

ELOrocks, you're right, and I apologize. That wasn't nice of me. I don't like the movie, true, but that's no reason to be rude to you.
However, remember that The Entity is basically a rape story, gussied up with a bit of supernatural dressing. I can't imagine any action scenes, philosophical discussions or psychological development that would redeem it. Possibly a soft-core parody might make the whole thing so ridiculous as to be basically innocuous, but all I can envision in a "no holds barred, beyond-PG13 rated" version is another case of Hollywood's eroticizing rape, even while they pretend to be appalled by it.
I'm sorry that this thought disturbed me enough to be rude to you. |

| Apology accepted. My point is that anytime they remake a movie these days, they have to make absolutely sure its politically correct. That pisses me off to no end. For instance, the movie "The Fog". In the original, there were no black people in the movie. Now on the re-make there is. I am not bieng racist, but its like saying the original version didnt "benefit" from affermative action. Do you see what i am saying? |
