Does anyone remember Get A Life with Chris Elliot? It was one of Fox's first comedies. A real quirky, slighty surreal but hilarious take on sitcoms. I think it defintely qualifies.

She was bred in old Kentucky, but she's just a crumb up here.

If I remember right, WKRP changed time slots 7 or 8 times in two years. It was a great show that got killed by the network. I wish they would release the unedited episodes on DVD.

I think Brimstone should be on the list somewhere. The casting was brilliant and the writing was pretty good, but it had the misfortune to be on FOX (The Network Where Good Shows Go to Die).

@kdraut:

Are you saying the WKRP episodes on DVD now are the syndication edits, not the original broadcasts?

Yes. And I'd be shocked if we ever see anything different again in our lifetimes. To get the rights to the original music would probably balloon the cost of a season set to $200. It's a crying shame no one thought to secure those kinds of rights back when the show was first done but there just wasn't any thought of home video back then. It only really hurts the main plot of a couple episodes (like the Pink Floyd segment) but the sound-alike music is pretty damn annoying. Still, what are ya gonna do- it's that or nothing.

It really hurts the episode with the Russian that wants to defect. "Hold my order, terrible dresser"????

Zombie - The DVD episodes have all of the popular music replaced with ersatz generic rock. Also, references to the names of the bands and songs have been re-dubbed. It's a damn shame because that was one of the best sitcoms ever.

That's exactly the episode I was thinking of: the "Tiny Dancer"
episode with Michael Pataki. On the DVD do they delete the song entirely, or do they simply hire some nobody to cover the Elton John tune?

Because I saw that episode many times in syndication and the "Tiny Dancer" number was left in.

I don't remember... I thought since he alluded to the Tiny Dancer episode that it was included in the first set.

Ah, yes --- GET A LIFE. I thought that show was great! I do have two volumes on DVD (four eps each), good episodes (Like "Zoo Animals On Wheels"), but unless they come out with more DVDs, I'll probably not see my very favorites again!
