A brief article from today's (7/7/07) MSN:

http://tv.msn.com/new-on-dvd/feature-article/?news=267913>1=10189

Mostly the usual suspects, each (of course) with a link to "Buy this on DVD." Except for the last and most approprate entry.

I'm not sure this represents the worst of the worst, though. In fact, I'm positive (there aren't any shows that have a well-known cast as babies, for example).

Anyone care to chime in with their own Jabootuan Saturday morning fare?

While I'm not going to defend any of those listed, I'd like to see some of those awful 80s Filmation series in there. I wasn't specially bright or mature at 7-8, which is when I used to watch those Spiderman, Masters of the universe and yes, Superfriends cartoons on saturday morning, but I could notice how they sucked, with re-used animation, silly dialogue, zero violence and zero exitement.

Captain Planet belongs in any worst cartoons ever list, but are we talking bad high-profile ones, or ones so bad they stayed entrenched in the annals of obscurity where they belong? For high-profile, I'm gonna say that Grim Reaper one on Cartoon Network; spoofs are fun, but there's a reason Dynaman only ran for six episodes. For obscure, I'll say Turbo Teen, a retro toon that looks so bad even I don't want to see it.

No, as a matter of fact, there has never been one single time where I've been mellow.

For bad as in near-zero production values, "Clutch Cargo" and its relatives, and the Marvel Comics animations, all of which were mostly just moving static pictures around, and not real animation.

They trashed "Transformers?" And the reasons were all for reasons that would trash most older cartoons. Let's face it, older animation usually doesn't hold up well. And no one died in 70's or 80's animation. I was never a fan of the cartoon, but it wasn't one of the worst.

Now I can totally agree with the "Silverhawks" assessment.

One of the worst cartoons has to be "Ghostbusters" by Filmation. I hated that company. If I saw their name in the credits, I knew exactly the trash I was about to receive. Somehow they made out with "He-Man."

The Rubix's Cube cartoon comes to mind as pretty awful.

I remember liking Silverhawks. Qualification: I was about 8 years old. Further qualification: I was the actual target audience for that show.

Nothing excuses low quality, but kids do have different standards. So it's probably unfair to snarkily sit back as adults and pick apart lousy cartoons of the past.

Filmation does undeniably suck, however.

That's a terrible list. Silverhawks was actually a decent show, and most of the others are far from the worst stuff out there. Only Pokemon is a real stinker.

Where's that craptastic Filmation Ghostbusters show?

Oh gawd- what an awful show *lol* Wasn't that based on an even more horrible live action show from the 70's with Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch, or C listers of the same caliber?? And a guy in a gorilla suit? Did I just hallucinate that after eating some bad shellfish or something??

I think the point of the list was, "Stuff you thought was good when you were a callow youth, but does not bear scrutiny by your cynical older self."

That's why the Smurfs weren't on there, or the Ghostbusters one. (I assume you're talking about the show with the gorilla?) Or "Gilligan's Planet" and so on. No one, ever, thought those were cool. They were there when you HAD to have the television on even though there was nothing "good."

I've never liked any of the incarnations of Scooby Doo. That would be on my list, but I gather others actually like that show to this day.

I have to say, there are much worse cartoon shows. It seems like they went for higher-profile shows. I mean, why pick on Silverhawks when that same company put out the even stupider Tiger Sharks? Or what about really dumb cartoons like Kissyfur or Shirt Tails or Care -dirty word- Bears?

Seriously.

There were a lot of dumb cartoons around, when I was a kid and TV was beginning to move away from the classics like Road Runner and WWII-era Bugs retreads from the old theater days (way before my time). But crap like "Milton the Monster" started invading the airwaves around then.

I refuse to recognize any "worst cartoons" list that doesn't have "Hammerman" at the very top, and a few more times in the middle.

And I'm sorry, but if you're gonna criticize Transformers for how characters never seemed to die, you'll have to put G.I. Joe on the list, too. They had what, 2 trillion dollars worth of advanced weapons and vehicles, yet the best they could do was shoot a rifle out of a Cobra soldier's hands? And every jet that got shot down was always accompanied by a happy little parachute....
