Saw the trailer for this upcoming movie just before Halloween.
I'll probably go watch it. For one thing, the vampires are in Alaska and don't appear to be goth Eurotrash-style vampires dressed in black and listening to techno dance music. Kind of getting tired of that cliche. Enough with the goth stuff already. No more vampires that look like Jacques Derrida refugees from a conceptual art gallery.

Starring Josh Hartnett. Hmm. I would kind of like to see an older male lead. Remember when vampires were fought by older British guys like Peter Cushing? Somebody with more gravitas? |

This is probably the one horror movie I'm most anticipating. The comic is based on is supposedly really good and advance word from the test screenings is that the film is great: no humor, same sort of grim tone like Carpenters THE THING.

I was actually likening it more to that Carpenter movie Ghosts of Mars, which was in a sense a sort of re-telling of Assault of Precinct 13.
I too hope they give it the serious treatment, not turn it into another teen-ish horror movie like The Faculty. I had my doubts they would when I saw Josh Hartnett.
A part, in my opinion, that would'be been better played by an older actor like a Gary Sinise or Tommy Lee Jones. |

| Apparently the lead character in the graphic novel on which the movie is based is an Eskimo (Inuit?) but they couldn't find any actors who could fit that role. Instead they went with Josh Hartnett. Seems logical, right? |

| Whatever happened to Jason Scott Lee or Lou Diamond Philips? This was the 90s, one of them would playing the lead. |

I actually heard the graphic novel wasn't great, but it's a killer premise, and I think this could be one of those movies that improves on its source material. Despite a lack of Inuit. EVERYTHING is better with Inuit.
The director is the same guy who made Hard Candy, so someone who's seen that should weigh in...

I saw Hard Candy... my recollection (it's been a while) was that is was flawed, mostly in the writing department... it didn't quite play by its own rules. But it was well made, very well acted and I'd say the director seems quite capable so I'm certainly interested in seeing how this turns out.
