Yes! I read in "Silent Service" that there was a RED US sub in world war two. Either the black paimt had faded, or they had been interupted durring the paint job as in the movie. I tried to find an internet link without success.

I'm glad you got the reference New Hinda. That's exactly what I was thinking about.
The pink submarine in Operation: Petticoat was a referance to a story about a submarine that had so many bomb blasts next to it that it stripped off the paint leaving the red primer underneath.

Let me watch the films as they were. If you do the color thing, do both versions. I will admid, the color version of PLAN 9 was amusing. Purple works for manlove!
