| Now I NEED to watch some Baywatch Nights episodes. I can only pray it will be as much fun as the High Tide series with Rick Springfield. Talk about idiotic cop shows, that one was really insane. |

Nev's comment about 'Idiotic cop shows' reminds me of a great idiotic cop...SLEDGEHAMMER! When they shot the laugh track out an air lock, it became intresting. When they turned him into an android cop, the hammeroid, they had me.....then they left me. I hate Hollywood.

Evidently it started out as a cop show in its first season then when it didn't get good ratings they decided to make it a sci-fi show in its second season. I can't imagine what the hell they were thinking. It's like transforming Charlie's Angels into a sci-fi show.

I can tell you exactly what they were thinking. "Hey, X-Files is popular, right? Let's do that". |

| I am amazed the thread has gotten this far without any mention of the legendarily awful LAND OF THE GIANTS - known less-than-affectionately to it's cast as "prop of the Week". Or of the crap-de-la-crap of horrendous sci-fi shows - CAPTAIN VIDEO. Even when it was aired, in the TV-FX-primitive 1950s,it was considered the worst thing ever to blight the airwaves. |

| Probably because those shows haven't been syndicated in ages. I've never seen either of them, though in the case of Land of the Giants I can't possibly imagine it being worse than that giants movie with Beau Bridges and little Ronnie Howard. |

Lets be fair to the great Captain Video. It was on the Dumont network, it had no budget at all, was aired live. They managed to make a lot out of absolutely nothing. As far as land of the Giants, it started out just fine, especially for kids, with to very good looking gals, but soon succumbed to the typical Irwin Allen shoddiness and repetition. They even began to uses props and costumes from other Irwin Allen shows. Taken over all I would not put either show in a league of shear terribleness as Flash Gordon, Lost in Space, Manimal, Automan, or other such trash.

Anyone remember Operation Bluebook? It was like a 70s X-Filesbut with two Air Force officers instead of FBI agents and they dealt only with U.F.O.s, no monsters. I don't remember it well enough to tell you if it was any good or not.

I think the show you're thinking of was Project UFO.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077065/
(Operation Bluebook was its alternate title.)
I remember it fairly well, mainly for the theme music, which was above par for this kind of thing.
(But then I loved the theme music for the original Superfriends so perhaps I'm not the best compass to go by.) |

I remember Project UFO. I loved it. Lots of neat flying saucer stuff. One nice thing I remember about it was that many of the UFO sightings they investigated really were just weather balloons and such, but a few of them were left unexplained. Quite progressive compared to a lot of the woo-woo UFO stuff that also came out about that time.
But I could've sworn the title was Project Bluebook or something like that myself.
And yes, whatever else the Superfriends had, bad animation, bad storywriting, stupid characters, whatever, the theme song at least was amazing. While most Saturday morning animation had some kind of silly theme song, or at most a fairly simple and innocuous melody that sounded like it was whipped up as an afterthought, the Superfriends theme was this huge, catchy, multilayered orchestral thing with blaring horns and strings and such.
The Cartoon Network here occasionally plays a music video-ized version of it as a time-filler, and I just love it. Indeed, I've been tempted in the past to come and post here just to say how much it rocks. I really am curious as to just what the story behind it is. |

| Thanks for the links! I forgot Ted Knight was the show's original narrator. Now there's a combo for ya. Stranded on a desert island, who would you rather have save your behind: Aquaman or Ted Baxter? |
