Maybe I am the last to know this, but today I found about this:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910905/

I'm not among Tavernier's most ardent fans, but sure it's gonna be worth watching.

Tommy Lee Jones as Dave Robicheaux, huh? Not how I pictured him, but it might work. (But only if Bootsie is played by Brenda Bakke.)

BTW, I first discovered Burke's books on tape, with Will Patton performing them. He adds a whole 'nother level of quality to the novels; they're even better as audio books than on paper.

I have trouble imagining Tommy Lee Jones as Robicheaux, although he resembles more the original than Alec Baldwin did. Still he seems like a fail-safe choice to me, even if the film turns out as a turkey he'll be solid. My main gripe with the project is Tavernir. Sure these French directors seem fascinated with America and the noir, but their films are like watching paint dry.

So far I've read the first six Robicheaux novels. I felt like after watching Heaven's prisoners a few times. They're not what I expected, the criminal plots always take a second seat to Robiceaux's demons, but they still make a great reading, specially for the atmosphere and the occasional weirdness. I mean, a Louisiana ex-cop allucinating about dead confederates? Priceless.

EDIT: More on the cast at http://crimespreecinema.blogspot.com/2007/04/complete-rundown-of-known-cast-for_29.html
