Color me still nonplussed that they actually decided to let Harrison Ford creak into action once again:

It's interesting that he's up against the Russkies this time out - post-Stalin to boot. I can't believe that they'll paint the dirty rotten Commies as being just as bad as the Nazis. They were only trying to make an omelet you know.

Sounds good, specially the bit about having Indy aging.

It's not like they really had a choice if they wanted to stick with Ford.

They could have blatantly ignored it, like they did in those Bond movies with Roger Moore.

This is an interesting comparison, but it points up why this latest outing might be touched by the dead hand of Jabootu himself. Connery left because he desperately wanted to try something new even though there was a continuing demand for new Bond movies. Ford has come back begging because he hasn't had a hit in years, and it's hard to argue that anyone has been clamoring for another Indiana Jones movie. What fraction of today's movie-going audience was even alive when the original hit the theaters?

In fairness though I could have said similar things about Bruce Willis and the latest Die Hard movie, and I actually enjoyed it immensely.

I can't speak for the youngsters, but around my circle (late twenties, early thirties people) everybody has heard already of the new Indy movie and have that light in their eyes when they speak of it. They would have forgiven ignoring Ford's real age and even more just to see Indy again in the big screen.

I could bring myself to imagine that for a lot of young kids the chance to see a new Indiana Jones movie hit the theaters has much the same allure as the chance to actually see Led Zeppelin play live would have been for me had I been able to score tickets. Maybe not THAT big, but you know what I mean. Heck, all us old timers saw through the Star Wars prequel nonsense but kids who weren't around for the originals ate that stuff up.

Of course, the prequels did NOT serve up an action star in his 60's.

George Lucas ... Star Wars episodes I, II and III.

Soooooo ... how much is Lucas going to be involved with the new Indy film?

The Indy movies are dumber than dirt. If Spielberg really wanted my butt in the theater, he could at least have delivered an intelligent script this time around. Unfortunately, those duties have been foisted upon David Koepp, whose credits include such brainless exercises as War of the Worlds and The Lost World, so I wouldn't count on it.

As a sidenote, I see Koepp has been tapped to write the remake of The Taking of Pelham 123. Koepp isn't fit to tie Peter Stone's shoe laces, let alone fill his shoes.

Well, that's not a bad thing. Many awesome things are dumber than dirt.

Is there anyone here who isn't going to watch it?

I kind of like movies in which old people kick butt. Of course, they must do it within the scope of their abilities. The problem is that we so often underestimate the abilities of old people. Just this year a thug tried to hijack a tour bus in Mexico filled with elderly Americans. If memory serves, one of those senior citizens killed that criminal with his bare hands.

You can glean some info from the wikipedia article. But take it with a grain of salt. Wikipedia is just a well organized trash can of info.

I find it interesting that they are bring back Marion and Willie Scott. I don't think they'll push love triangle. Because Marion would win, hands down.

Also, from the clips I saw. They show Indy being held down by 2 American soldiers. I'm not saying anything one way or the other. But I would hold my opinions about who they chose for bad guys until more facts are understood.

I have no plans to see it. I haven't seen the original three either.
