Oh my goodness. Good golly Miss Molly. I just sat through the trailer Foy linked to.
Was there a SINGLE shot in there that wasn't a rip-off of LOTR? I swear to goodness, it looked like Boll was trying to do something similar to that shot-for-shot remake of Psycho.
To hire John Rhys-Davies, though? I wasn't sure whether to pop a vein in apoplexy, or collapse in giggles at the obviousness of it. (Although even in the trailer it's clear that JRD has a better grasp of how to deal with the material than Reynolds or *snork* Liotta.) |

I've been waiting for this for two years. This movie will be glorious.
The earlier trailer (which probably wasn't an official trailer) showed how bad it was much more than the current one. |

I wonder if John Rhys-Davies will give interviews and say Boll was a great director to work with and had such... oh pick adjective... "vision", "drive", "style", "genius".
Like what Halle Barry said about Pitoff on the DVD interview of Catwoman.
Just so we could have the satisfaction of know they are lying through their teeth.

Holy cow, Matthew Lillard's in this thing? NOW it goes to 11 on the fiasco scale. I may have to go to the theater and see this but I hate the thought that I would be contributing to any impression that its existence was justified.

Believe it or not, IN THE NAME OF THE KING really isn't all that bad. I know; I'm as shocked as you are. If this movie didn't have Uwe Boll's name on it and everyone didn't know this was an Uwe Boll movie it would still get crapped on but it wouldn't get the outright venom a lot of reviews are spewing towards it. Heck, you wouldn't even know it was an Uwe Boll film. It's easily his most competent work. It's just a overly long b-movie rip-off of LORD OF THE RINGS with some good parts, bad parts, dull parts, lousy dialogue, a generic story, some howlingly funny miscasting, and the ork-like Krug look like they escaped from a live-action Ninja Turtles flick. And Matthew Lillard... Not since Brando in ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU has their been an off-the-charts performance like this.
Compared to both D&D movies, PATHFINDER, THE LAST LEGION, THE GOLDEN COMPASS, and ERAGON, I'd gladly sit through this film again before any of them. This is purely a film along the lines of Cannon Films/New World Picture territory. I'll talk more about the good, the bad, and the unintentionally funny on the next Foycast I'm recording in a few days.
Oh, and for the record - "A DUNGEON SIEGE" has neither a dungeon or a siege.

Dammit. That's what I was afraid of. That Boll would surround himself with enough money and competency to raise the level of his craft from genius bad to merely boring, average bad. A dull, mundane bad, an unappetizing sludge, not effervescent bubbly champagne of absurdity. Where is the horrific yet compelling flaming wreck in the middle of the road we've come to expect and love. Crap.

BTW this has nothing to do with anything but I just found out tonight I know Andrew from Dread Central. I saw him in a video store here in Chattanooga a couple weeks ago. I had no idea THAT was the website he was involved with. How crazy is that? Sorry to go way o/t but Foywonder's post made me think of it...

Do not confuse what I wrote with saying the film is merely boring or average. It has its dull moments, but for the most part its faily lively and the miscasting makes many of the performances that much more entertaining. The performances of Matthew Lillard, Burt Reynolds, and Ray Liotta ensure this film a place in the pantheon of camp movie canon. It's better made than the Ed Wood nature of HOUSE OF THE DEAD and is more lucid than ALONE IN THE DARK but it still doesn't bore like BLOODRAYNE or its sequel. It really does have that Golan-Globus/New World Picture feel to it.

See, actually Bloodrayne didn't bore me at all. I thought it was more fun to watch than AitD. OK, between Lillard, Liotta and Reynolds- I'm sold!

I like Matthew Lillard. I thought he was great in Scream and made the perfect Shaggy in the Scooby-Doo films.
That being said, I wouldn't touch this film with a fifty foot Balrog. |

I like him too. He was actually outstanding in SLC Punk! and he does make a good Shaggy. But he can Shatner with the best of them and I expect be had to barf hourly from ingesting scenery on this one. I like Ray Liotta too, but he can sure slum with the best of them, this film being exhibit A...
