I thought I read something (maybe it was here?) where screenwriters Braga and Ronald Moore basically admitted on the commentary track for the DVD that they screwed up Generations. They also conceded that it might have been more effective if Kirk had died while commanding a ship.
(Kirk falling from an actual bridge, as opposed to a ship's bridge, was meant to be a visual pun. Har har.) |

They think!?!? I mean Shatner was in his what, early 60's then. Camera work can only hide some much.
Please say the bridge part was actually not the intention.

It might not be too late.
Maybe they could do another "going back in time" episode like Voyage Home with Picard's crew. This time they land in Boston and get in to some trouble with the local authorities.
And their only hope in completing their mission lies with a odd ball attourney Denny Crane!!!!
You can smell the money that would make.

*lol* I have no idea how sarcastic you're trying to be, or not, but I actually fricking love that idea.

As I understand it, Braga and Moore deliberately had Kirk die by falling from a rope ladder bridge as in-joke reference to the actual bridge. No fooling. |

You know, if nobody said that, I would never have even thought of it. That tells you all you need to know about how good a joke that was. They couldn't let Kirk go out with dignity in the opening scene, could they? They had to kill off a cultural icon in some stupid punny way that has to be explained to people for them to get the joke. Nice move, guys.
You know Grand Funk, don't you? The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The ... adequate drumwork of Don Brewer? |
