I guess it's "strange new respect" time. I've mercilessly made fun of Jolie in the past (and the Brad Pitt baloney drives me up the wall), but I have to admit that this is pretty thoughtful:

I don’t even have the energy to defend Bush on this anymore, but it really takes guts for her to go against the Hollywood zeitgeist like this. Kudos to her.

Well, I don't think she has made any wild change in her liberalism. That is, if she even was a liberal for starters, it looks to me that we're assuming she was just for being an artist with humanitarian interests.

I certainy can agree with her views. I'm what you'd call a liberal and although my views on the invasion remain the same, I think the longer U.S. troops stay in Irak, the more probabilities exist for the country to stabilize and for the sectarian violence to wind down.

Think of it as a polite way of saying: "You messed up, now you clean it." But if anybody creates a thread titled "Neville: Neocon", they'll have to fetch a couple of witnesses and start refreshing their fencing skills. I mean it.

I'd agree with that and I'm not a Neo-Con either. Obama's pledge to remove the troops within a year is the one thing that makes me wary of him (frankly I don't think he'd be able to do it and I think that he knows that too), not enough to make me vote for McCain though. (we don't need to be there 100 years either John)

I'd read somewhere that she is a big fan of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, which isn't exactly a left-wing treatise. Can't remember where I found it, but apparently both here and Pitt are intensely interested in making it into a movie.

And this isn't the first time I've seen McCain's "100 years" statement taken so literally. That was just his way of saying that we are going to stay until the job is done and not do to the Iraqis what we did to the 16 million or so South Vietnames when we abandoned them.

It's not going to take 100 years...

I didn't take it literally either but the parallel he was drawing was not South Vietnam but South Korea. I don't think we need to have a long term military presence in Iraq like we do in South Korea which is what the Bush admin and McCain support.

We're assuming this is all political. Given this Angelina Jolie, I fully suspect she's there to scope out Iraqi orphans. Expect an adoption announcement shortly.

While I agree that she is a Hollywood type and will probebly say or do something very stupid to sabotage her crediablity, still he has had interaction with the area and alot of hanging out in Africa (looking for new children, but still...) and has a pretty good idea what an area that has collapsed in on its self must look like.

Too late: vials of her husband's blood around her neck, kissing her brother suggestively in public and talking about how much she loves him, admitting to collecting knives and enjoying cutting herself, no shortage of stories about her erratic behavior, her own father coming out and saying she's mentally unstable, and let's not forget that she's eventually going to run out of canvas for new tattoos.
