Got this link at Lileks. Some Australian eco thing (a kids show of some kind), has this test to see what kind of Greenhouse Pig you are:

I was supposed to be dead at 24.6 -- that's when I used up my "share" of Earth. Dang, I'm a greedy jerk: I've lived almost twice that long. To make amends, I figure I need to stip off all my clothes and go off to the forest and let the wolves and woodchucks (our ecological betters) devour what nutrition is left in my sorry carcass.

Hey, I should have died at age 8.9. And I don't even drive a SUV. I think that that means that in order to make my Earth share scales balance out I must murder 4 infants. At least, that's the way I interpret it.

Sort of counter-intuitively, I think someone living in a big city can get a longer lifespan on this test than someone in the country or burbs, where you need a car -- I live in Chicago and haven't driven a car in 20 years (public trans & walking gets me around usually). I think the test probably rates living in a "flat" instead of a house gives you points too.

| 3.8 years old, mostly because I don't hold investments in environmentally conscious companies (or if I do, I'm not conscious of it). Sounds like bullsh1t to me. |

| I'm with Food on this one. I checked the average items across the board (and I don't invest in green companies because my money's tight for investing), except for my house, which is relatively small. They said I should have died at 8 or 9 years old. That in itself rubs me the wrong way, someone saying you should've died when you were a kid. I know it's just a theoretical scale (supposedly), but it still feels kinda creepy. |

I guess there is a Green version of "Original Sin" -- just being a living human being makes you and evil creature troding all over beatiful Gia and ruining things for all the other "natural" creatures -- I think the extreme-greens will always find something to try and make a person feel guilty!
