Lately, things have been very civil on these boards. Too civil. Kinda like the calm before the storm, know what I mean? All this pleasantness is unhealthy. We all need to blow off steam constructively from time to time; else we'll end up venting in unhealthy and unconstructive ways.
Hence, I suggest a free-for-all. Let's clear some air, let some things off our chests, and be better people because of it. Of course, this is the Jabootu fansite, so that means we here practice our own unique form of dissing.
Allow me to be begin (clears throat):
My Tom Laughlin video collection is WAY BIGGER than your Tom Laughlin collection! Nyahh!
I'm so cool I watched Manos without those two stinkin' talking robots! Nyahh NYAHH!!
And Uwe Boll told me he likes me best! Nyahh NYAHH NYAHHHHH!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.... that felt liberating. Anyone else want to try it?

The Sound Of Music is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Amateurs.
I own a video cassette of The Devastator...and I've watched it more than once.
What is The Devastator, you ask?
Well, it stars Richard Hill, Katt Shea, Crofton Hardester, Kaz Garas, and was directed by Cirio H. Santiago.
Yeah, I never heard of any of them either. Imagine the screenwriting of The Marine coupled with the budget and production values of any episode of The A-Team and a plot lifted clean from Walking Tall and you get this 1985 movie that must've been rejected by Golan-Globus Productions on the grounds that it doesn't meet their standards of quality.
Synopsis...
After the mysterious death of a close army pal, a Vietnam vet goes after the psychotic owner of vast marijuana fields who he suspects killed his friend. |

| What about a common viewing of 300 followed by a roundtable and plenty of alcohol? That should leave us all exhausted until next time. |

And let's have Godwin's law present this time:
quote:
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
[...]
There is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress.

Being an occasional right-winger (at least compared with much of my family), and with my name, my personal Godwin's Law always seems to involve comparisons to Hitler's wife. So there you go...
Here's one: Know why George Lucas had so much money to throw away in those simply awful new Star Wars movies (Chapters 1-3)? It's because he cleaned you nimrods out with all those idiotic versions of the first three oldies. The Revised Edition. The Restored Edition. The Director's Cut. The Extended Version. The Edited Version. The Uncut Version. The Not-as-Boring Version. The What's-Adam-Sandler-Doing-in-This? Version. The George Lucas Grabs You By the Ankles & Shakes Until the Money Falls Out Version. The...
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!
I can't take it any more! The first three came out in like the '70s or something. Get over it! He took your money. He wiped himself with it. Then he rubbed it in your face!
PPPPPPBBBBTT!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not running after Pip. At least not until I write down a list of defending arguments in favour of Star Wars Episodes I - III, and that's gonna take a long time.
Oh, and being a leftist of sorts, I want to add an addendum to Godwin's law, because I imagine that I'm more prone to mention Nazis than everybody else when it comes to political ramblings. I'd like to extend the "ban" to the words "Communist" and "Stalinist" too. |

Actually, I'll take a swipe at the use of Godwin's law. Let's face the fact that liberals have made everyone but the Nazis some victimized class. We even had Clint Eastwood showing how nice the Japanese were while opposing the imperialistic Americans in "Letters from Iwo Jima." So, we're left with the Nazis as an agreed to standard of evil. And heaven knows that the only reason they are still acceptable villains is because they are white Europeans. If they had been green Martians, there would be a whole cottage industry devoted to how a lack of dialog, misunderstandings, and, of course, those evil, white, Europeans/Americans caused the whole thing. Therefore, I claim that anyone invoking Godwin's law to claim victory has failed.
Flame away!!! :-)

I'll only say that I'm a liberal but I have nothing to do with the beatification of pre-World War II Japanese. Methinks it is more a matter of economics, it's not good PR to label your partners as fascist / imperialist / etc. Even if they pay visits to the graves of war criminals on a regular basis or they refuse to admit their share of atrocities, which was plenty.
And Letters from Iwo Jima is a damn good movie, no matter how you put it.

Neville, I threw in the liberal remark since this is a flame war and I knew you couldn't resist. :-) However, I think economics makes a convenient excuse. Why don't we worry about labeling our German partners the same way? Well....I won't beat a dead horse other than to say they are melanin deprived and exist in a certain geographic location.
(Terrahawk, being a traditionalist/conservative, i.e. a spawn of hell, ignores the flaming furniture knowing that Neville will soon be sitting and sleeping on the floor. It's the small tortures we evil ones enjoy.)

It may sound an overused argument, but I believe economics are the key to many anomalous political behaviours. Take western countries' attitude towards Putin's Russia. Back on the 80s, the U.S.S.R was fair game for polititians and the media to criticise, but now you'll have a hard time finding explicite quotes of condemn from western polititians. Those who would have spoken against the soviet occupation of Afganistan pretend they've never heard of Chechenia, and poisonings of opositors and disidents are quickly dismissed as diplomatic incidents. Maybe they're afraid of next month's gas bill.

The West is ignoring Putin because Russia's no longer supporting international communism. The old Soviet bloc has been shattered, so rightly or wrongly the US has moved onto other matters.
But c'mon guys, this is a Jabootu flame thread. Like for instance, who d'ya think was worse, Francisco Franco or Jesus Franco?
