Note that Incredibles was Pixar's first PG film. Gutting it to get a G rating would have ruined it.

Ever since this thread opened, there's been a niggling feeling in the back of my brain that I'd seen at least one violent on-screen death. I just had to wait until it floated to the surface.

Now it has. The December 15, 1973 episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series, titled The Slaver Weapon*, had the Kzinti captors of Spock & Co. blown to smithereens. According to Wikipedia, this was the only episode of the series that had on-screen deaths.

*This episode was written by Larry Niven, one of my favorite authors, adapted from an earlier short story of his, which made it especially memorable to me. I don't think the Kzinti came across too well though. Too wimpy.

Jonny Quest! I saw race Bannon shoot a guy dead. Bounced his slugs off a bulldozer blade around a corner. Guy fell dead. Lots of corpses in that show.

Altair IV. In the written form of the animated eph. with the Klingon stasis wepon, its said the Klingons lost 22 crew to an Enterprise hit in their enginerring section. Wonder how that was in the filmed eph?

Flangepart I remember that JQ episode, it was cool! The old show was a hundred times better than the revival.

OFF TOPIC:
Biggest Cartoon Dissapointment: In the pilot for GI Joe, when Scarlett's patrol is surprised by Cobra robots, she cuts loose with a COLT M-1911A1! Too bad they armed her with a small crossbow later.

Here's a few I can come up with off the top of my head:

The Simpsons- Frank Grimes and Bleeding Gums Murphy

South Park- Mrs. Choksondik, Chef(sorta), Kenny(actually stayed dead for a season or two)

King of the Hill- Buckley

In 1996, there was a Saturday morning cable cartoon called Wing Commander Academy, based on a computer game series. It only lasted one season, but almost each one featured the very real deaths of characters, including a few of the recurring ones. One particular death early on in the series even impacts the rest of the season, as the character directly responsible becomes hesitant about the war she's fighting.

The first death in the series was technician Borroughs in the first episode, who copies and delivers classified information to the enemy. When questioned as to how his honor allows him to betray his own people, he simply says he cares nothing about honor. This prompts an enemy to perform what it considers an act of mercy by blowing him out an airlock.

Wing Commander, incidentally, was the first non-anime show I'd ever seen that even tried to deal with war in a mature fashion. It's rather sad it didn't catch on.

I think the only reason The Incredibles was rated PG was because it featured humans instead of animals/cars/toys/monsters/etc. I don't think there's anything they could have done to make it a G rating. I mean, is there anything in that movie that makes it unsuitable for children?

You might have a point there, but in my mind Incredibles was far more "violent" than the average Pixar cartoon. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. What good is a superhero movie without BIFF! BAMM! BOOM!

Back on topic: Ursula died onscreen in The Little Mermaid... more violently, in fact, then any Disney character in recent memory. (Yet Mermaid was G rated while Incredibles was PG... ugh, my head hurts.)

In the Bravestarr episode, "The Price" a kid ODs on a futuristic drug. They even show him skitzing and stealing money from people.

Thing is, there's a character on the show named Shaman, basically an extremely powerful, well, shaman. Does he use any of his vast and mysterious magical powers over pretty much anything the plot demands to save the kid from the evil drug dealer, or to cleanse him of the toxins? Nope!

Does he use his ability to telepathically contact Bravestarr, in order to warn him about the child's plight? Nah, he just appears from nowhere and cryptically warns one of the kid's friends about the dangers of not ratting people out before disappearing again. Apparently, Shaman can't be arsed to show up in front of the drug addict in order to scare him straight, or to teleport him into a hospital or something.

And when the friend finally comes clean with Bravestarr about the drug addict's habit, and takes him out to where he last saw him, only to find his corpse (we just see the hand), Shaman has the gall to cry over him!

Technically it's Japanese, but I grew up watching Speed Racer, and people were killed left and right in that show.

The was a Fat Albert episode were they were doing a thing on gang violence.

A kid was killed jumping in front of his gangland brother and the kid took a bullit that was originally meant for the brother.

I just remembered Johnny Quest. Lots of people died in that one. I remember seeing one episode and was a bit shocked at how casually it handled a boatload of guys getting blown up after Race plants a bomb on it.

Don't know if any recurring characters died, though.

Yeah, I would've picked JQ too. LOTS of guys die, often by the hand of Race Bannon (which makes Brock Sampson all the more hilarious...he's not that far from Race except in terms of disposition.)

I need to watch The Incredibles again.
