I love the Moon Landing conspiracy people. By the time you build those bigass Saturn Five Rockets and send 'em up in space (and no one can deny that was real) what the hell is the point of not going the rest of the way?

I work with a hardcore conservative who vehemently believes the moon landing was faked, a libertarian so adament about the Kennedy assassination that he practically starts frothing at the mouth the moment he sees or hears anything arguing that Oswald acted alone, and a liberal Christian so paranoid about the Bush administration he's insinuated in the past that they somehow used a satellite to steer Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast, somehow caused the Southeast Asian tsunamis that killed so many, and once even tried to argue that Bush himself was the Antichrist. Heck, my own grandmother was convinced the Libyans blew up the Challenger.
I know this thread was started as another means to engage in the board's famous pasttime of taking turns talking about how stupid such and such Hollywood liberal is, but really, at this point there's no shortage of crackpot conspiracy theorists all across the geo-political and religious spectrum. I'm all for a good conspiracy theory and a healthy dose of skepticism but I can't help but find it depressing how so many these days instantly assume there's some sort of sinister manifestations behind everything.

A review of the 80's alien invasion miniseries V that I stumbled upon at Amazon.com. Should give you a good laugh.

There acutally an epithet used these days to describe 9/11 conspiracy buffs, "twoofers". It's a bastardization of "9/11 Truth."

Ironically, in my country most conspiracy theorists are right wingers. Probably it's because both the conservatives and the media that supports have been living in denial for the last four years. Even today, a week before the next elections, it's not difficult to find polititians or media that still claim the March 11th 2004 terrorist attacks were ETA's doing. And those are the least nutty of the bunch.
Unfortunately, though, the likes of Mrs. Cotillard also sound way too familiar. You won't find many Europeans who doubt the Moon landing, but conspiracy theories about the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks are still everywhere. And given our endemic anti-Americanism and the scarce credibility we give to the present U.S. administration, I'd say we're beyond hope in that department. |

Noam Chomsky, that arrogant loony left linguist, has, for decades, been touting vast conspiracies about everything. He seems to have secret information detailing conspiracies in everything that happens in the world. I wonder with so much worry, how he sleeps at night. I also wonder how all this secret information wound up on his desk. You would think that some of it would make the papers, but ah, the papers are part of the cover up conspiracy. |

The Reptilian conspiracy thing is definitely not new. I had a friend who was way into it 20 years ago- had a whole box of taped lectures about it. It was almost a $*c*i*e*n*t*o*l*o*g*y type theory- something about a reptile alien race at war with a wolf race, or something, and they shape change and live among us- wild stuff. Never thought about it before but the creators of V might have heard of it and based some things on it. Most conspiracy nuts I know aren't right, left or anything else- they're in the "You're ALL blind" camp *lol*

Just read any of Noam Chomsky's articles in far left wing magazines like The Nation or Mother Jones. He has a new vast conspiracy every week. This week's one legitimizes the murder of Klinghoffer because, according to Chomsky, it is was legitimate response to a vast Israel - U.S conspiracy involving Tunisia and a cover up, (which of course only Chomsky knows about) The conspirator is always The United States or Israel whose overwhelming evil leaves the rest of the world no choice but to engage in terror.
Conspiracy fantasies give the paranoid, like Chomsky, a feeling that they have inside knowledge that no one else has and can put it all together in a way that no one else has done. Its a feeling of empowerment to someone who otherwise feels himself to be on the margins. I like to pray "dear Lord lead me to people who seek the truth, but save me from those who know it". |
