Probably no one here has seen it, but the end of the suspense-thriller Brigham City absolutely wipes me out. But it's very Mormon-specific; I would imagine most outside the faith would find it striking, but not as emotionally draining as my wife and I did.

The end of The Searchers when John Wayne is left silhouetted in the doorway alone while everyone else goes inside the cabin. Then he slowly turns and walks away...

She was bred in old Kentucky, but she's just a crumb up here.

SPOILERS
Two from me - one from a movie, one from a TV series:

- Mulholland Drive: The "Club Silencio" scene, during the a capella singing of Roy Orbison's "crying", in Spanish, by Rebekah Del Rio (such a powerfully sung version that it's almost enough to bring a tear to your eye by itself). During the song "Betty" starts crying. The first time I saw the movie, nothing. The second time I saw it, armed with the realization of what the "Club Silencio" scene means to the film's story, when the camera cuts to "Betty" who is crying, there went the waterworks

- Band of Brothers, episode 9, "Why We Fight". Easy Company stumbles upon a concentration camp from which the Nazis have fled. They go back to town and get all the food they can find to bring to the prisoners, head back to the camp, and start handing out the food. The battalion surgeon is brought to the camp, and, upon seeing how malnourished the prisoners are, realizes that the food being distributed may very well kill them. The food has to be taken away from the starving prisoners for their own good. I'm choking up just writing about this scene.

Regards BAND OF BROTHERS, it hard to pick...Gristle's choice is dead on, particulary how Joe Liebgott had to tell the prisoners all that, without loseing it all together.

I'd add The part where the 506th is boarding the C-47s for Normandy. The whole sound track makes me a basketcase.

BATTLEGROUND...when the survivors of the company are marching out, and they see the incomeing troops, and their pride comes back, they get in step, and the Sarge counts cadince.

Oddly enough, the last movie I cried at the end of; First Blood
I went into it thinking 'Well it's probably a shallow bunch of explosions, but it's a classic kick-ass guy movie, I guess I should watch it once'. Rambo's "Nothing is over" breakdown at the end hit me like a ton of bricks.

The Green Mile always gets me too, heck I can barely see the last half hour of the film through all the mist.

Remember the scene in THE BIG RED ONE, where Lee Marvin's platoon liberates the death camp? Lee Marvin finds a dying little boy, sees the number tatooed on the boy's forearm, tries to feed him or get him to speak. The little boy dies and Lee Marvin can't accept it that the boy died just as the death camp was liberated and he walks around with the dead little boy in his arms and my tear ducts are filling-RIGHT THIS MINUTE!!!!
I saw THE THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA when I was a small child and just cried my eyes out. Does anyone besides me remember the scene where Mary sees Thomasina at the window and runs out into the rain?
I saw a movie at Summer camp when I was 10 years old. All I remember was that it was about a family, a father and his two daughters, spending the Summer on the French Riviera. An older woman comes to visit, there's some kind of relationship between her and the father, it ends with the woman driving her car off a cliff. I cried my eyes out. Anyone recognize the film?

New Hinda, the movie you are thinking of sounds like BONJOUR TRISTESSE (1958), starring David Niven, Deborah Kerr and Jean Seberg. I just saw that for the first time a couple of years ago when I got the DVD.

Oh, yeah!
That was a harsh one there. And Marvin knows how to sell that. Great film.[/font=Arial]

More:

Toy Story 2. "When she loved me..."
Apollo 13. The reaction at NASA headquarters at the end, and then the shot of Ed Harris, trying to keep it all inside.
Rich Man, Poor Man (TV). The series finale. "Go out and get the bad guys for me..."

I need to see some of these movies...sounds like I'm missing some heartbreakers.

quote:
And here's one from left field. In early '03, I was relaxing around 7 am, having a cup of coffee, watching VH-1. The video for Johnny Cash's "Hurt" came on. It took me several minutes to compose myself and get up after I saw that.

Oh god, me too. Just...so much sadness in that video...to see The Man in Black as a tired, lonely old man...

Aw geez, I'm choking up remembering it. Gotta go.

A couple more:

Sixth Sense. The conversation in the car. "Mommy, what did you ask her?"
Rocky. "Stay down, stay down!"
Kramer vs. Kramer. Basically the entire last ten minutes. If you've seen it, you know what I mean.
Ghost: The farewell.
