Long along I had this idea for a TV show where a troupe of actors would, every week, take a song and make it an hour-long show. Assuming that the actors were good and the budget was there, I would like to see the following as the first 10 song/show season...

Murder, Tonight, in the Trailer Park by Cowboy Junkies
Simple Kind of Life by No Doubt
Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles
On the Radio by Regina Spektor
Lovers in Japan by Coldplay (Clocks maybe, if directed by Akira Kurosawa like his Dreams movie.)
Crush by Garbage
The Road Goes on Forever by Robert Earl Keen
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
I Will Survive by Cake
Red Barcheta (sp? the car song) by Rush

What would yall pick?

My suggestions:

Piano Man (Billy Joel) [There was a movie with James Cagney in the forties set in a bar that would fit this song]
The Last Farewell (Roger Witaker)

Band on the Run by Wings
Take the Money and Run by Steve Miller
Life in the Fast Lane by the Eagles

Why yes, these could all be covered in one movie or show.

A Passion Play by Jethro Tull. Yeah, it's an entire album but technically it's still a single song. I actually did a complete set of story boards for an animation for it when I was a kid...

Virtually the entire "Mosquitoes" album by Stan Ridgeway. It's a spectacularly underrated album, but it has an amazing cinematic feel to it. Songs like "Going Southbound", "A Mission in Life" and "Peg and Pete and Me" all would be solid songs to start with.

Also:

"Here Comes a Regular" by the Replacements
"Lone Star Song" by Grant Lee Buffalo
"Let the Day Begin" by The Call

Fishheads by Barnes and Barnes. Duh.

PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court?
HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

Just about any song on Tumbleweed Connection by Elton John would work. Also, a lot of Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen songs would work.

I'd also suggest:
Whiskey in the Jar by Thin Lizzy and Metallica
Baba O'Reilly by The Who
The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia by Vicki Lawrence and Reba McEntire
In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins (you could just take the urban legend of that song and make an episode from it)
The Minstrel Boy
Another Auld Lang Syne by Dan Fogelberg (this would be the Christmas episode)
Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner by Warren Zevon
Nothing Compares 2 U by Prince and Sinead O'Connor
The Kids Aren't Alright by The Offspring
Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits

You know Grand Funk, don't you? The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The ... adequate drumwork of Don Brewer?
